Firearm Homicides and Suicide in Major Metropolitan Areas
During 2018-2019, there were 48,372 firearm suicides among U.S. residents. Firearm homicide and suicide rates were calculated for the 50 most populous metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs).
In 2015-2016, the Atlanta area MSA had 764 firearm suicides among those aged 10 years or older (rate of 7.6) and 48 firearm suicides among those aged 10-19 years (rate of 2.9). In 2018-2019, the Atlanta area MSA had 963 firearm suicides among those aged 10 years or older (rate of 9.2), and 51 firearm suicides among those aged 10-19 years (rate of 3.0).
