Suicide Rates by Industry and Occupation 2021

The suicide rate among the U.S. working-age population has increased approximately 33% over the last 20 years. Major occupation groups with the highest suicide rates included Construction and Extraction; Farming, Fishing, and Forestry (e.g., agricultural workers); Personal Care and Service; Installation, Maintenance, and Repair; and Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports, and Media. This report identified that suicide rates for males, females, or both in multiple major industry groups that were higher than in the total civilian noninstitutionalized working population.
