2021 Preliminary Quarterly Drug Overdose Surveillance Report 2021

This report describes fatal (mortality) and nonfatal (morbidity) opioid-involved overdoses in Georgia during the first quarter of 2021, including prescription opioids and illicit opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl, and fentanyl analogs. Opioids overdose data were analyzed by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) Epidemiology Program, Drug Surveillance Unit, using Georgia hospital discharge inpatient and emergency department (ED) visit data, and DPH Vital Records death data.
